How could they? How dare they cross these boundaries that we define for them? And to think that it was a bunch of girls who had such audacity. They must be taught a lesson of course. Bully them, humiliate them, pull them by the hair and beat them up if you have to. Let alone entering a pub, they should learn to think twice even before stepping out of their homes.
Yes, that’s where a girl’s rightful place is. In her home.
Women cannot go to a pub, and definitely cannot drink. It is not part of the Hindu culture. And it is not part of our Indian culture. Period. Men, of course, can go to bars and night clubs, get drunk, watch women dance and then satiate themselves in prostitutes. It is but the duty of the wife to patiently wait up for him to return home in a drunken stupor with just about enough strength to beat her up before passing out on the bed. This on the other hand, certainly goes hand in hand with Indian culture.
Let’s stand up and applaud our latest upholders of culture and tradition in the country. What heroes they are for preventing the permeating influence of the west from seeping in. For valiantly stumping out the existence of pub culture which when decoded, means nothing but women drinking and socializing in public, in the company of men. No, we can’t have that. Women becoming financially independent, standing on their own two feet on par with men, earning as much or even more than their men, having the ability to make their own choices; no, we can’t have that either.
What does it matter if we’re a democratic country? What does 59 years of right to freedom count for? If we see a woman ‘abusing’ this freedom by quenching her thirst with a drink, appearing out of her home with a male friend, and God forbid hold his hand, she will have to face the repercussions of her actions.
The Indian constitution may allow it, her parents and her own conscience may allow it, but how does that matter. If the army of the upholders of culture, tradition and morality have a problem with it, then war will be waged. Make no mistakes. And this war will not have no end till every last Indian woman is behind the purdah and inside her home.
Be it in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan or anywhere else, the state governments are doing their bit to uphold our religious values, our freedom. Hurrah to them! Hurrah to India’s Taliban!
