The Perfect Start To 2010

While partying hard to welcome the New Year is a great idea, a tired body and mind on the first day of the year are not. Here’s a de-stressing guide to living the first day of the year with some zing.

Re-hydrate

Whether you partied out or played a host yourself, there is little possibility that you are not a victim of de-hydration. Unlike the popular notion that it is caused by excessive drinking, lack of sleep, little intake of fluids and binging on junk can have a similar effect. Start your morning, or perhaps noon, with at least one to two glasses of room temperature water followed by a fruit juice. Remember, coffee may help you snap out of your slumber but it helps little in replenishing the body’s lost moisture. And after all, today is one day when you don’t need to follow the rat race routine.

Brunch it right

If you are suffering from an alcoholic hangover, a breakfast consisting of eggs, banana, and honey over toast will do wonders to cure you. But in the event of a food hangover, yes, that constipated, bloated feeling in your stomach after gorging on super spicy and fried snacks throughout the evening, there is more reason why you shouldn’t skip the morning meal. Unless you stuff yourself with some high-fibre food, your stomach is going to get little help in clearing the system. With seasonal delights like pineapple, pomegranate and strawberries in the market, here’s your chance to create some exotic salads.

Move your muscles

It’s not too difficult to spend the entire afternoon lazing around with your favourite toys – the television, internet and phone. But it’s important to realize that none of these are going to do anything for your aching muscles. If anything, they are just doing to hurt your eyes and perhaps, even your back.

A good idea would be to walk around the house to analyse your pain areas. Next, recollect those warm-up exercises you picked up at school and were re-introduced to by your trainer at the gym. If these seem impossible, precede them with a hot shower using a menthol body gel. The hot water will open up your blood vessels, making your muscles feel more relaxed. To heighten the refreshing experience, add a few drops of rose water or fresh flower petals from that latest blossom in your balcony.

Pamper your senses

Once you are out of the shower, you are likely to be feeling much better except for bouts of loud and wild images from last night coming to your mind. Opt for some comfortable fitting cotton attire in pastel or earthen shades for a pleasing effect on your mind. An instant way to get those now tired eyes feeling happy is to pamper them with a few drops of rose water or even better, the ayurvedic Netraprabha that your grandparents and parents swear by. Finally, plop yourself on your dad’s reading chair and soak your feet in a tub of warm water. Add some salt and body shampoo for cleansing purposes. Of course, browsing the papers as you do that is mandatory; remember – it’s a reading chair.

Bond with your basics

It may be 2010 but our mind and body is yet to be invaded by a robotic virus. While most of the year is spent compromising on personal and family time, try to make a different star this time. Spend the afternoon reading a book with your partner, kids for that matter, even your parents. After all, they have spent countless nights reading out your favourite story zillion number of times. Once the sun mellows, head out for a walk to the park. Seldom is there a better way to bond with your loved ones while enjoying the bounty of nature at little cost.

Now that you know it all, get off the internet right now! Wish you a hangover free start to 2010.
