Friends are always asking me for cool places to go to on a date. Instead of the clichéd dinner, here are some suggestions that are fun and different. If nothing else, you will get brownie points for being creative!

• Pick up your date early in the morning and take a stroll in historical Bangalore courtesy of Bangalore Walks .

If you love nature, try the Lalbagh Walk and lap up the green surroundings, some history and a traditional breakfast.

If you prefer a taste of old Bangalore, try the Victorian Walk which includes an awesome breakfast buffet at Ebony and covers cantonment Bangalore with its lovely churches, buildings and bungalows.

The walks start at 7 am and end at 10 am followed by breakfast. Price including breakfast is Rs.495 per head. For more details, log on to Bangalore Walks , where you can also make reservations.

• Go on a long drive to Taj Kutteeram (a Taj resort – beautiful, ethnic and not as expensive as a regular five-star) and Nrityagram (the late Protima Bedi’s dance village) situated near the Hessarghatta Lake. The drive, once you pass Dasarahalli, is nice and is about 1.5 hours from M.G. Road. Call ahead to Kuteeram and they will have a scrumptious lunch waiting for you. Kuteeram is really nice –it consists of a bunch of cottages, geese, ducks and this outdoor, tropical-looking seating area overlooking a pond. Cuisine is Goan -inspired, the atmosphere is lovely and service is impeccable. If you like, you can also tour beautiful Nrityagram during season.

• Head out early in the morning or after dinner to the 24-hour Café Coffee Day located at Maddur, about 70 km from Bangalore on the Bangalore-Mysore highway. Sweet talk over numerous cups of coffee and breakfast or dessert and drive back home.
