So it’s party time. You have everything planned, right down to your foot wear. “All eyes on me!”, if that’s what you’re thinking, well there are better ways than looking like a powdered and caked clown. Stuck between too much or nothing? Here are some Make-Up How To’s, for anybody that wishes to woo.
Identify your skin type and your skin tone. Ensure that the products you purchase are an exact match. Also take in to consideration the colours that suit your complexion. Use the right brush and a clean one at that to avoid transfer of bacteria.
Now that you got the dos and don’ts down;
- Begin with a cleansing, toning, moisturizing routine.
- Conceal any blemishes or under-eye circles with a concealer that is one shade lighter than your foundation and blend with your fingertips or a makeup sponge.
- Dot some foundation over the central part of your face and spread it outwards with a makeup sponge or your fingertips until it covers your entire face.
- Lightly brush some powder across your face whilst using a powder puff to powder your upper eye lids.
- Dust a bronzer over your forehead, cheeks, and chin for a sun-kissed look. Alternatively use a highlighted oil-free moisturizer mixed with shimmer dust for that extra shine.
With the base in place; it’s time now for the eyes, the lips and the cheeks. Visualize the look, natural or risqué?
Blah tips:
Sexy Eyes
Use powdered eyebrow shadow with a hard, slanted brush.
Choose three colours of eye shadow; light, medium and dark. Use the dark only to line your upper eyelid, in a fairly thin line along the upper lashes. Use the medium shade for the crease and the lightest shade for the area under the eyebrow. For a smoky look use a primer first and blend in a dark eye shadow once the eye has been lined.
Line the upper lid of your eye stroking toward the outer corner, to blend use an angle brush. Line only the outer two-thirds of the lower lid, or all the way across if you’re trying to achieve a darker look. For the ones that dare, also line the inner area of the lower lid for smoky eyes. You might want to avoid standard black or brown especially for the inner area of the eye if what you’re looking for is a sassy do.
Don’t forget the mascara. Psst, use the lash curler first!
The Perfect Pout
Line your lips with a lip liner, preferably after applying lipstick. Use a neutral coloured pencil following your natural lip line or a gold, bronze or silver. Fill in lip colour. Dab your lip brush in your lipstick, then some of your lip gloss for a nice light shine. Shade in the line for a blended look. Finish by blotting your lips on a tissue.
Remember when applying strong eye makeup it is best to choose nude lips. Gloss makes them look fuller, so a touch of it is required.
Chic Cheeks
Smile so you can see the apple of your cheek. Start the application at the apple and drag the blush outward toward your temple, following your cheek bone. Blend the colour down a bit below your cheekbone in towards your earlobe. For best results merge powdered and cream blush, dab it on with your middle finger then blend with your ring and middle finger.
Test your original colour by spanking your cheek and select a shade closest to it. To warm and freshen up the face use a dusky pink blush. Reds and pinks are for winters while peaches, beiges and warm hues are better for summers.
If you’d like to tone down after putting on some blush, a bit of translucent powder will help.
