Since there has been some talk of California on blah recently, I think it wouldn’t be inappropriate to dwell on some uniquely Californian experiences…

If you happen to be visiting the sunshine state, check out the Napa Valley Wine train. If you don’t want to drive around visiting various wineries, the Wine train offers a vintage railroad experience combined with food and wine.
The train travels along highway 29 (the main winery road) and serves a basic variety of wines from the region. The food is good quality - and the experience is unique.
On certain weekends, the Napa Valley Wine Train offers a children’s car where children can enjoy dinner and movies.

If you do like to drive around visiting various wineries, don’t miss ‘Godfather’ director, Francis Ford Coppola’s winery at the Rubicon Estate in Napa. http://www.ffcwinery.com
You’ll find FFC’s signature wines, movie memorabilia and a vintage chateau - make for an unforgettable trip.

Combining movies and wine comes easily to FFC, so they are currenlty running a very interesting short film contest:
“Rosso & Bianco are wines for everyday life. Francis Ford Coppola Presents is looking for you to create and submit short movies that represent that idea.”
Contest is open only to US residents but you can check out the very interesting short films that have been posted on http://www.rossobianco.com/
My favorite is the one titled “Afterlife”.

What is your favorite California Experience?

Candy says:

My favourite Calif/SFO experience was spending a few hours chocolate shopping at Ghirardelli Chocolate Co. at Fisherman’s Wharf. Simply the best!! Can not miss that one.

meenakshi says:

The 17 mile drive - Pebble Beach, Big Sur, Bird Rock and Carmel!

gauravjain says:

my cousins bachelor party stands out as my fav California experience.

Aditya says:

Pier 39 in SF, baseball at Angels stadium in Anahiem, lunch at nepenthe(big sur) overlooking the deep blue pacific and of course a drive on PCH.

deapthought says:

Sausalito - beautiful European-styled little town about 10 miles north of San Francisco is a must-see
Wine Country - play treasure hunt and try to find the smaller, family-owned obscure vineyards and be treated to a more personal tasting experience than the big brands (contact me for some secrets!)
Muir Woods & Stinson Beach - the drive is beautiful as it twists and winds along a cliff-side before it opens up into a beautiful, lively beach
Mill Valley - go a little farther north from Sausalito and explore the best small local town in the world - Mill Valley locals are the kindest, the most fit, and the most laid back people in California
SBC Park - catch a ball game at SBC park and watch the Giants over some Garlic Fries, some Sushi and a beer
My list will be endless, so I’ll stop here (unless people ask for more!)

rajeev says:

for me it has to be the picnic we had with a view of the golden gate bridge

Anand says:

While I cannot recall any particular experience, my California experience comprises of all of the following places that I’ve visited during my stay there - Gas Lamp Street, Julian (yummy Apple Pies), Carmel by the Sea, Route 1, Mill Valley, Muir Woods, Stinson Beach, Point Reyes, Mount Shasta, Death Valley, Sequoia Forest, Gilroy, The Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman’s Wharf, Golden Gate Ferry, Sausalito, San Franisco, Crooked Street, Ghirardelli, and ofcourse my favorite - Yosemite.
