Make-up Essentials for Every Season! April 15th, 2007

Stock up on the basics, just incase you are left behind…Here are a list of make-up essentials you’ll be needing all year round! Here is a list of the new products in the block which are definitely worth a try! :)

1. Foundation: One of the most essential parts of make-up is foundation, which is usually applied to get more coverage than any other base. If you need an overall “even” look opt for foundation. Choose a foundation closest to your skin color, and since the summer is already here, I reckon you go for something light. Tinted moisturizer is also a good option, just incase you don’t find it you can mix your foundation with your usual moisturizer.
Check out: Lakme Daily Wear Soufflé or Maybelline Wonder Finish.
For an elegant sheen try Revlon Face Illuminator Lotion

2. Concealer: Yes…it’s completely alright if you have some dark spots on your face that you want to hide, like those scars left by break-outs or dark circles that haunt you as you can’t get enough sleep. Concealer’s usually blend well in such areas and just incase you do not have a concealer you can use the dried off part of foundation that is left in its cap.
Check out: Maybelline Cover Stick and Lakme Magic Face Concealer

3. Kohl or Kajal: No one in this planet will disagree on this one. A girl might forget to wash her face but she can never forget to wear “Kajal”. Simple yet elegant, kohl makes your eyes speak volumes! Always keep it handy and opt for a waterproof and smudge-proof one for the summers!
Check out: Lakme Kajal and Kohl Sparklers to add that extra sparkle!

4. Mascara: Flirty lashes are forever in season. Black mascara’s have always been an important part of every girl’s make-up regime let it be thickening, lengthening, or waterproof. Just incase you want to break the rules and go wild…try blue mascara…it’s all of a sudden come back again! Go retro chic.

9. Lip Balm: Yes…lips get damaged in summers too! You need to protect them with the right product so that they remain smooth and don’t get tanned. Applying lip balm before putting lipstick helps in longer wear of lipstick.
Check Out: Vaseline Petroleum Jelly or Blistex Lip Tone SPF 15.

10. Facial Wipes: Facial Wipes are life saviors when it comes to traveling and getting rid of all that make-up from your face. They leave your skin clean, cool and refreshed.
Check Out: Baby Wipes (Inexpensive substitute to costly facial wipes)

11. Eyeliner: Black liner nowadays is worn in winged style…something that you saw Angelina Jolie wear in Alexander! Very Cleopatra…but still very haute! You can also experiment with bold colors like metallic blues and bright greens.
Check out: Lakme Liquid Intense Shine Eye liner in ink blue, sky and bronze.
Maybelline Expert Eyes Pencil liner in Charcoal.

12. Eye Shadow: Dramatize your look by giving your eyes a splash of color! Crème eye shadows stay for longer hours and do not smudge. For a more outdoorsy look you can just sweep some basic glitter over your lids, to go glam!

14. Blush-on: Go girlie with that slight pinkish blush. Natural is always the best option when it comes to blush-on. Pinch the apples of your check right after your bath…the redder or pinker they get is the most suitable color for your blush-on. Brush product over the apples of your cheeks (the plump part that comes out when you give your broadest smile!) with a big brush for best results!
Check out: Maybelline Expert Wear Blush or Loreal Blush Delice

work/life (im)balance March 12th, 2007

This AM my boss sent out a very nonchalant email informing us that we need to make ourselves available all weekend through next thursday for a team visiting from out of the country. He also said that if any of us had travel or other plans we would have to change them.

Now maybe it’s just me, but this whole thing seems very disrespectful. I don’t mind working weekends sometimes. But this is a growing issue. And to tell me just a few days before that I have not only lost my entire weekend but also my Ugadi holiday, (and that it is non-negotiable) seems wholly ridiculous. And yet others in my office are not as incensed as I seem to be.

Is this kind of thing normal here? Should I be outraged or simply plan to slog it out?
Do tell!

Denimology: Guide to perfect fit Jeans! March 9th, 2007

Ok now how many of us can acttually make out the difference between boot cut or flare or just perhaps straight fit or low waist? Come on, come on…its time to get the skeletons out of the closet now! If you can’t, need not worry your definately not alone! Here is all that you will ever know about denims….Read up now and thank me later as this article wont only leave you informed about the various styles in denims but also act as a guide inorder to find that one perfect pair!

Denimology!

Long Torso
Perfect Fit: If you want to show off that flat stomach go for a pair of low-rise jeans. Ideally you want a pair of jeans with a defined waist that will make your bottom half look sleeker. Long torsos should also try to wear a belt whenever possible, and go for jeans with zipper’s that are atleast 10cm long.
Avoid: Jeans with tight, stuffy crotches!

Heavy Hips
Perfect Fit: You should go for jeans with a bit of stretch so they’re comfy enough, and medium sized back pockets. Choose a jean with a low-rise waist and a slight flare to help to balance your figure.
Avoid: Styles with really big or really small back pockets and detailing across the back and big no-no to worn out denims especially when the butt region is concerned!

Short Waist
Perfect Fit: Low lying, hipster and super hipster styles will give you the illusion of having a longer upper half.
Avoid: Jeans with zippers more than 8 cm long and jeans with design near the waistline, you dont really want to attract eyes towards your short waist.

Curvicious
Perfect Fit: Go for designs with a flared leg, boot cut or pattern around the ankle area. This will help to direct attention to your calves…so make sure you’ve got some simply gorgeous shoes on as well!
Avoid: Fits that are tight around the thigh area and pointed or baggy styles.

Tall and Slim
Perfect Fit: Go for straight fits and just incase you want the attention towards your elgs go for something more flary along the outside length of the denim!
Avoid: Denims with a pointy leg. This will give only accentuate the size of your feet (and taller girls often have big feet) and make your legs look weird.

Petite
Perfect Fit: You look great in straight leg jeans, but if you’re looking to make your legs look longer, wear heels with a boot leg style, and make sure you go for dark-hued jeans.
Avoid: Styles with cuffed ends and the popular capris.

Now, don’t you agree with me that this was one of the most informative article on jeans ever? ….And as I always say…Glad to have helped!
