Being a born-and-raised Californian now living in Mumbai, I’ve desperately tried to import California beach-bum like fashion here. I’ve tried my best, and I’ve pasted some pictures of the type of style I’m comfortable rocking, regardless of whether I’m going to Henry Tham’s or Chaurasia Paan:af2.jpg

Nothing beats a funny, attention grabbing comfortable t-shirt.

Roughed up polo tee always looks stylish while also showing people you’re not as pretentious as the prick wearing a body hugging tee and fashion sunglasses

af4.jpg

Cargo shorts keep you cool in the hot summer while also giving you a nonchalant cool look.

af5.jpg

The Hawaaiian print floral swim shorts are here to stay - versatile enough to wear to the beach, out and about, as well as at the pool

af6.jpg

I can never pass up a good, comfortable pair of destroyed ultra low-rise bootfit jeans. Hard to find here, but you can find them. Perfect with a pair of flip flops and a t-shirt.

Cargos are definitely in this summer for guys, but extend your style a bit farther and go for a pair of camoulflage cargos. You could rock these with a polo tee or even a cutoff in the summer.

What California boy can forget his flip flops? Go for something a little funkier than usual. Yes, Crocs are in, but I don’t think they’re here to stay. Flip flops are, so pick up a funky, but comfortable pair. Leather is a no-no and for the yuppy who is wearing them with white linen pants.

Any other California boys out there? Even if you’re not from California, some of us are Californians at heart, so feel free to suggest your own California style!

deapthought says:

I only wish, Gaurav. Can’t find any of that stuff here! And honestly, it was the best way to communicate California laid-back style. I do enjoy my Diesels and True Religions as well as the second-hand store treasures :)

Aarti says:

You did not mention where we can find these in Mumbai, Deapthought. Thats the most relevant q, isn’t it?

deapthought says:

In my closet :-D

gauravjain says:

i doubt anyone here even knows about True Religion… i think Abercrombie, Gap Vintage and Rogan are prolly the best jeans out there.

though Levis is King in India.

gauravjain says:

umm…

for the lack of a better word, i suggest a panty raid.

smallsquirrel says:

You’re making me sad. Due to being six months preggers I can no longer squeeze into my 7 for all mankind or rock & republic jeans. WAAAAAAAAAAIL!

I’ve seen a ton of knock-off crap here and I did get in touch with A&F to find out if they had any licensed distribution in India - in fact, they don’t in all of Asia (outside of Japan, I believe). So it’s either fly to Tokyo, or try to do it ourselves. I’ll soon be writing an article on how you can self-weather your clothing and make it appear as such. I do miss A&F :(

Nigel says:

hey lads, I live in London and they opened an A&F store in London early last year. It is the best casual outfit I ve had since my birth. I ve had plenty of attention wearing A&F in London. Prices in London for the product is very high compared to the American price.
